Durood Upon The Prophet {SAW}

Durood Shariif

DUROOD SHARIIF IS AN INVOCATION we make to Allah to bestow His choicest favors’ and blessings on the Prophet {SAW}. It is a kind of a prayer. The truth is that, after Allah, the greatest obligation on us is that of the sacred Prophet {SAW}. He underwent tremendous hardships and endured the bitterest pf persecutions in order to convey the Divine Guidance to us. Had he not borne these trials and sufferings, the light of Faith would have never reached us. We would be dwelling in gloom of apostasy and making our home in Hell after death.

Since Faith is the greatest blessing on earth and we have attained it solely through the merciful agency of the Prophet {SAW}, our greatest benefactor, next to Allah, is the Prophet Muhammed {SAW}. There is nothing we can do to pay back the enormous dept of gratitude we owe him. We can only pray for him to Allah as a token of our loyalty and gratefulness.

But what prayer can we make worthy of the Prophet {SAW}? Naturally, none, besides that Allah may magnify and bless him with his choicest favours. This is just what Durood is.

The Quraan clearly enjoins upon us to offer Durood, and in what a wonderful matter does it do so: “Allah and His angels send blessings on the Prophet: O YE that believe! Send your blessings on him and salute him with all respect.” (Surah Al-Ahzaab: 56)

The Prophet {SAW} is reported to have said: “There are many angels of Allah whose special duty is that they keep on moving in the world, and, which ever follower of mine sends blessings upon me, they carry it to me at once.”

Gracious is the Allah! Our Durood is communicated to the Prophet {SAW} by the angels and through it we get a chance of being mentioned in his presence.

A really easy Durood to recite during the day, while doing our work (should NOT be recited the in lavatory-bathroom) is

 TRANSLITERATION:

 “Allahumma salli ‘alaa Muhammadi-nin nabiyyil ummi-yi wa-azwaajihii um-mahaatil mu-minii-na wa-dhur-riyyatihii wa-ahli baytihii kamaa sallayta ‘alaa Ibraahiima innaka hamidum majiid.”

Translation:

“O Allah! Magnify Prophet Muhammed, the Unlettered, his wives, the mothers of the faithful, his posterity (followers), and his family, as Thou hast magnified the family of Ibrahim. Verily, Thou art the Praiseworthy, the Majestic.”

When ever we take the name of the Prophet {SAW}, talk about him, hear about him or read about him, we should at once send blessings on him. On such occasions it is enough to say only: “Sallallahu ‘alayhi wasallam or Alayhis salaatu wassa-laam.”

“Oh Allah, keep us steadfast on the path pleasing to you, grant the ability to follow the teachings of the Beloved Prophet {SAW}.Aameen.”
